Greetings from Clarkson Music Theatre. This is your July Newsletter, including updates on the ramifications of the Coronavirus, your membership fees, and your AGM. Let’s get started.
1. The Coronavirus has hit the theatre community particularly hard. For the safety of our participants and our audience, the CMT Board has made several difficult decisions in this – our 75th Anniversary Year.
a. The 75th Anniversary Gala has been postponed for a second time. The new date is June 19, 2021. Venue: Noble Hall on Royal Windsor Drive. If you wish to purchase a ticket, please contact [email protected]. CMT will continue to send reminders regarding this event to members past and present.
b. Regretfully, we announce that our fall show – Cinderella - has been cancelled as has the entire 2020-2021 Encore Season. Instead, The Encore Series hopes to complete its 2019-2020 season (Hunchback of Notre Dame and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – performance dates to be confirmed by the theatre). Thank you for the support of our subscribers who have already renewed or purchased their subscriptions. The theatre will be in contact to arrange the refund of your purchase. CMT is committed to producing Cinderella when we finally return to Meadowvale Theatre. Thank you to our Cinderella Artistic team who will eventually helm this endeavour. (Directors: Gillian Rodrigue, Renee Rocca. Jenny Peace and Producers: Rita Ferguson, Chris Filippelli and Christine McMahon).
c. This year’s Christmas Cheer Choir is also cancelled – again due to concerns for the safety of our choir and our audiences. Thank you to our Choir members and our tireless team (Producer Seona Sydor and Music Director Ruth McDonald) for all your selfless work.
d. CMT hopes to finally share “This is Clarkson” as our 2021 Spring Concert. Further details to be confirmed. Again, the pandemic might affect these plans. We await the future and hope for a vaccine!
2. Plans for the renovation of Meadowvale Theatre continue. We will keep you informed on details as they become finalized.
3. Membership Fees: Now for Some Good News! The CMT Board is pleased to announce that membership fees for 2019-2020 members are waived for the coming year. (ie: memberships for the Casts of “The Addams Family”, “This is Clarkson” and members of the 2019 Christmas Cheer Choir are automatically renewed). If you did not pay your 2019 membership and would like to do so to remain a member in good standing till 2021, e-transfer $40 for single / $50 for family to [email protected]. Cheques may be mailed to Clarkson Music Theatre, 1415 Buckby Road, Mississauga, L5J 3W7. If you have any questions on your membership, please email our Membership Secretary [email protected].
4. We congratulate Christopher Martins who is this year’s recipient of the CMT Performing Arts Scholarship 2020. Chris, a graduate of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School, will continue his post-secondary studies at Metal Work Institute in the sound design program. Congratulations Chris!
5. Clarkson Music Theatre formally invites our members in Good Standing to attend CMT’s Annual General Meeting, at 7:30 pm on September 24th/2020. This AGM will be held on a social media platform (Zoom) – link to be provided.
The four Board members whose terms have elapsed have agreed to run again. They include: Rita Ferguson, Christine McMahon, Susan Wray Toogood, Nick Forrow. Members in good standing are invited to nominate new candidates for the CMT Board. Along with other requirements, nominees must be CMT members in good standing for twelve months. Nominees for President must be a Sitting Board member for two years. Nominations should be sent to our Board Secretary: Joanne Hines ([email protected]) Nominations close on August 15th. For further information on the nomination process, please contact Nick Forrow at [email protected] or (905) 823-1834.
Members in good standing should look for a future email on or about August 25th with further details on:
a) how to attend the Sept. 24 AGM (instructions and link)
b) the list of final nominees for the board (including names of those standing for re-election)
c) your ballot and proxy should you be unable to attend the Sept.24th AGM. Further details will be included.
d) an invitation to a Sept.17 test Zoom with our marketing director John Galbraith, to familiarize yourself with the technology
Members in good standing should look for a final pre-AGM email on or about Sept.20, with:
a) the AGM agenda
b) Detailed reports by scheduled presenters
To lawfully hold an AGM, CMT requires a quorum (as per our Bi-Laws). It is important that you either attend the Zoom AGM or that you send your ballot / proxy. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
Finally, the Board extends its gratitude for your patience and support during this difficult year. We will get through this together with continued kindness and safe practices. Stay well all!
Respectfully,
Your Board of Directors.
